Coin Utilities

It is always good to keep some utilities handy for the coin collection and preservation. These utilities gives their returns in their own way.

Coins in Acrylic Media

The one-off-coins collected in small quantities which do not form a set of coins can be clubbed together to form a pleasing and memorable gifts on any happy occasions by encapsulating them in Acrylic Media. You can see for yourself.

The embedded coins in acrylic sheets are designed and executed by M/s Somya Creations in Bangalore for the entire work. The contour is laser cut and the text is laser engraved .

The coins are embedded in concentric circles depending on their diameter and specifically to suit the one-off / pairs of coins that do not form a set. The rotary table is designed in such a way that the coins can be brought to any convenient position for better viewing . For the coins in pairs , Obverse and Reverse sides are arranged side by side so that the viewer need not look at the bottom so see the back side of the coin.

All said and done lot of effort had gone into the design and execution of this fixture , which is made possible by Laser cutting and Laser Engraving.

Each coin is designed with certain parameters conforming to their countries standards. I have made Laminated ID Cards for some of the countries coins for approximately 1500 nos based on the data made available on the internet. The next 2 images are shown as examples for the viewers to study. In many cases the designers for the Obverse and Reverse sides are same but in cases like Euro coins , the Obverse is common for the Euro Countries and the Reverse sides are designed by the member countries artists. I shall appreciate if the viewers study the back side of the ID Card to understand the various parameters that go into the manufacture of the coins.

Headers are taller than the ID Cards by 10 mm and are printed with the Countries Map and their National Flag. The ID Cards are identified with the 3 Letter Country Code and the running no to facilitate organizing the ID Cards properly like in Libraries. Heavy preparatory and cataloging work had gone into the making of these ID Cards.

Statue of Liberty National Monument

As of 31/08/2008 there are two machines outside the gift shop by the snack area and two machines in the tent gift shop. All the machines have the same design. Each coin cost 3 dollars to make. One side says "The Stature of Liberty" with Liberty's upper body design. The other side says "same thickness of copper as the Statue of Liberty 3/32" .  When any one visits , I recommend the visitor to order for 2 Nos of coins and see the coins come out of the machine.

The embedded coins is encased in 4 th row and is in the middle.
